About Me

Hi!

If you've clicked on "About Me" and you've been lead here, I feel very honoured that you want to get to know a little more about me! (I can only assume that's the reason you clicked on the tab button...)

Well, my name is Riley Bolen and I am 20 years old. I am married to my high school sweet heart, Craig, and together we have a 3 month old baby boy name Samuel.
I know, I know, I hear it all the time "Holy Crap! 20? Married? Kids? So young! What happened? Didn't you want to travel the world and find yourself first?"
Let me explain! Please, take a breath and relax!
When I first graduated from High School, in 2008, I did want to travel, explore and have exciting adventures...but that's not what God had planned for me. My heart yearned to see Greece and Italy (and still does!), to learn both languages, to make friends in both countries so I could travel back and forth between the Mediterranean and Canada, to try new foods and see beautiful sights...But the idea of settling down and starting a life and home seemed to make more sense - and was way cheaper.

I have too many friends who did the travelling thing, or taking the time off of work and school to play and have fun, and saw only negative things come from their actions. They lost money.  They lost good relationships with their parents because of all the partying they did, and all the bad decisions made with strangers and friends alike. Everyone kept trying to justify it all as "finding themselves" when really all they found was themselves in a heap of debt and lonliness.

Craig and I didn't want to end up like that. Our goal is to raise our son, Sam, in the ways of Christ, to help him grow big and strong, and when he's old enough...Ditch him with the grandparents and we'll go travel! We'll still be young, we'll then have money saved up (no debt!) and we'll have peace of mind knowing our child is safe and waiting for us to come home to him.

As you can probably tell, I am a Christian. I was born into a Christian family, but only truly came to faith when I was 18 years old (so, really, I'm still quite a baby Christian!). I am not religious.
A fun fact for you: The word Christian was formed because in Greek it means "Little Christ". After Jesus Christ was crusified, and the resurrected, new groups of people (who we would call Christians) were popping up all over the place telling the Gospel story and starting churches. The Greek people all noticed how these Jews/Hebrews/Gentiles were acting and living out their lives just like Jesus did when he was on the Earth. So they gave these people the title "Christian". Little Christ. Because they were just like little version's of Him!
And that's how I want to be. So devoted to living my life for Christ, and like Christ, that I don't have to tell people I am a Christian - it will just shine so brightly out of me that people want to give me that title, without me ever having to state my beliefs!

I am the Youth Leader for the Church I attend, in my small town of Salmon Arm in beautiful British Columbia. I have the best time with my teens every Monday night and then on some weekends throughout the month. Every Monday we have a Bible Study where I prepare a short sermon for us to discuss. We also do 1 Service Activity a month and 1 Fun event where we go somewhere random or do something really really fun like lazer-tagging, or bowling, or picture scavanger hunts, or pizza parties and swimming, or skiing trips, or camping, etc.
Well, enough talking about me...over time you will learn all about me and my craziness. Keep snooping around the blog! I'm trying to make it as fun as possible!
